Basic Copy Writing Techniques For Beginner Marketers

If you own a website and you have something to sell online, you’re on the right track. Your job as a seller is to make sure the prospect or lead becomes interested enough to buy your stuff. You should learn effective copy writing strategies so that you can compel people to stay on your site and buy what you’re selling.

Copy writing is a sales tool that most marketers wield. A “copy” is different from other forms of writing on the internet because of the persuasion or selling intent that’s obvious from the way the text is structured. The professional copywriters nowadays are either making a living off selling products, or making a living by writing copy for the serious marketers. But what you need to know is that effective copy writing is not magic, it’s something that anyone can do given the right strategies.

Basic Copy writing Strategies for Beginner Marketers

1. Make Your Headline Compelling

The headline is the title of your page. Your headline must zero in on what the prospect needs. You can create a great headline if you know exactly how your products or services are going to make your prospects’ lives better.

2. Connect With Your Prospect on the Emotional Level

Don’t ever beg someone to buy from you. That’s not what I mean by “getting them to be emotional”. If your copy can push the right emotional buttons, your prospect will not need further prodding to rip out his wallet and buy what you’re selling.

Psychologists believe that impulse buying has something to do with a core emotion that drives the sale. For instance, if you’re selling an anti-acne product, channel the prospect’s desire to be beautiful. Emotional response is the main reason why someone can sell ice to Eskimos.

3. Make it Active

A personal conversation is more effective than listening in on an impersonal speech made by a person you hardly know. Pretend you’re talking to a friend when you write your copy. They want to feel like you’re giving them and their problem your complete attention. You want to drive home the fact that the copy they’re reading is made especially for them personally.

Here’s the thing, people aren’t really interested in what you have to say unless it could benefit them in some way. People care only about what you can do for them.

4. Target Your Market

This is the most significant strategy of all the things I listed here. Re-read your copy from the reader’s perspective. What are their hopes, dreams, desires, and problems? Does your copy answer these questions for them? Understanding your audience will help you create an emotional and powerful copy directed specifically at your audience.

For instance, a woman who’s in her late thirties wants to look like she’s 25 forever. A mom is almost in tears because she can’t potty train her kids. A father feels useless if he cannot fix his crying son’s xbox. These are real problems, and the internet is supposed to hold an answer to these problems. YOU provide the answer and land a sale.
